The Green Bay Packers placed veteran long snapper Matt Orzech on the active/PUP list to start training camp with a calf injury. This led the Packers to sign Cal Adomitis. Adomitis has had a strong training camp, meshing well with Trey Smack, who made all 16 attempts, going 7-for-7 on extra points and 9-for-9 on field goals, including one from 59 yards in Denver and one from 58 yards in Pittsburgh.
With the roster cuts deadline set for 5 p.m. Sunday, the Packers have to decide whether to activate Orzech, who has yet to practice this summer, and potentially place him on the reserve/PUP list, which would sideline him for the first four games, or keep Adomitis given his chemistry with Smack.
The Green Bay Packers make puzzling long snapper decisionGreen Bay Packers long snapper Cal Adomitis (43) during Green Bay Packers Family Night on Aug. 7, 2026, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. Sarah Kloepping/Green Bay Press-Gazette / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn ImagesAccording to Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated, the Packers have released Cal Adomitis. The expectation is for Matt Orzech to be activated from the PUP list and be ready for Week 1. This is a puzzling decision because it may impact Trey Smack’s performance, since kicking is essentially a three-man operation. In addition, Smack struggled during the spring when Orzech was the long snapper.
Roster cuts have started and the first big move is in with the release of Cal Adomitis. Will be updating this in a moment.https://t.co/SpL051pB31
