GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) -- ECU has their QB1 to start the season as the Pirates have tabbed Mitch Griffis as the starter for their season opener at Alabama next week.
Griffis began his career at Wake Forest back in 2020. He played for the Demon Deacons for three years before transferring to Texas Tech last year.
Head coach Blake Harrell said Griffis was more comfortable with the offense given how similar it was to the one he ran with the Red Raiders, but Miami transfer Emory Williams could play as well.
"Similar terminology, similar offense, a lot of parallels there," Harrell said. "But I think we can expect both early in the season here, both in game one and then just see how that process plays out."
Griffis has thrown for 2,314 yards and 17 touchdowns in his career, completing 61% of his passes.
