In a recent press conference, Hansi Flick, the head coach of the German national football team, addressed concerns regarding Lamine Yamal's fitness after the young player sustained a knock during training. Flick revealed that Yamal experienced some pain, prompting a decision for him to train separately from the rest of the squad. However, he also noted that after the session, Yamal reported feeling fine and is expected to travel with the team. "Tomorrow we’ll see," Flick stated, indicating that a final decision on Yamal's participation would be made closer to the match.

Flick also provided an update on Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus, who has been recovering from injury. While he is not yet at full fitness, Flick mentioned that Jesus is showing signs of improvement and enjoying his time with the ball during training. "He can play a few minutes," Flick added, suggesting that the player may feature in some capacity in the upcoming game.

When asked about the overall quality of his squad compared to the previous year, Flick expressed confidence in the team's progress. He highlighted the effectiveness of their pressing game and the ongoing work in possession drills. "We’ll see at the end of the season whether this squad is better than last year’s, but in terms of quality, it’s top," he remarked, emphasizing the potential of his current lineup.

Flick also discussed the leadership dynamics within the team, particularly in light of injuries to key players Marc-André ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo. He explained that it was natural for the team to vote for captains who could step up in their absence. "I’m happy with the team’s choice and with the five overall. We’ll need players who can speak up and take responsibility," he noted, underscoring the importance of strong leadership in the dressing room.

On the topic of defender Jules Koundé, Flick praised his professionalism and competitive spirit. He mentioned that Koundé prefers to play as a centre-back, and the coaching staff is committed to helping him reach his highest potential. "There are fantastic options in every position, and we decide what is best for the team in each match. The decisions can change, but he works hard and wants to reach his best level," Flick said, highlighting the depth and versatility of the squad.
