High Demand for MLB Field of Dreams Game Tickets Amid Rain Forecast

The anticipation surrounding Major League Baseball's (MLB) upcoming Field of Dreams game continues to grow, with fans showing no signs of slowing down in their ticket purchasing efforts. Scheduled for Thursday in Dyersville, Iowa, this year’s matchup features the Philadelphia Phillies taking on the Minnesota Twins, and the demand for tickets has reached staggering heights.

Currently, resale prices for tickets to this special event start at approximately $650, with most seats listed at over $1,100. These figures mirror the ticket prices seen during the previous Field of Dreams game held four years ago, indicating a consistent interest in this unique baseball experience.

Tickets for this year’s game sold out months in advance on the primary market, with only a limited number available to Twins season-ticket holders and through a lottery system for Iowa residents. The resale market is now bustling, reflecting a demand comparable to that of last month’s MLB All-Star Game, which also saw ticket prices soar.

Looking ahead, the 2026 Field of Dreams game will be streamed exclusively on Netflix and will utilize a newly constructed stadium at the original filming site of the beloved 1989 movie starring Kevin Costner. This new facility, which accommodates around 8,000 fans, features permanent player locker rooms and redesigned seating, marking a significant upgrade from the temporary setups used during the previous MLB games in 2021 and 2022.

The Field of Dreams game occupies a crucial spot on the MLB calendar, taking place shortly after the All-Star Game in Philadelphia and just before the September push for postseason berths. Jeremiah Yolkut, the Senior Vice President of Global Operations and Events, emphasized the importance of hosting such special events at various times of the year and in locations that do not typically host major league games. He stated, “What we’ve created is a moment that can really harken back to what the movie was all about.”

As preparations for the game continue, MLB recently conducted a practice run by hosting a minor league game on Tuesday between the St. Paul Saints, the Twins’ top affiliate, and the Iowa Cubs, the Chicago Cubs’ affiliate. This game, which Iowa won, took place amid severe thunderstorms and strong winds that caused minor damage in Dyersville.

The weather forecast for Thursday is uncertain, with rain expected early in the day. However, there is hope for a drier window in the evening when the game is set to begin. This unpredictability in weather conditions brings to mind last year’s MLB Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway, which also faced rain challenges. Should conditions deteriorate in Iowa, a rain date has been established for Friday, which is currently an open date for both the Phillies and Twins.
