As the Illinois football team prepares for its season opener against UAB on Thursday, September 7, senior wide receiver Hudson Clement is eager to make his mark on the field. Clement addressed the media on Monday at the Smith Center, marking his first public comments since the start of training camp. The wide receiver, who is entering his second season under head coach Bret Bielema, had been sidelined for part of camp due to a concussion sustained during drills. "Really excited for this group," Clement expressed. "Excited to get back out there. We’re ready to go." Feel more comfortable with everyone in the offense, everyone in the program. I feel good." Having transferred from West Virginia, where he began his collegiate career, Clement has adapted well to his new environment. He acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to a different team and a new city, saying, "I’ve been in West Virginia my whole life. It’s a big change." However, he has embraced the transition, stating, "It’s great. I love it. Very much used to it now. I’m just looking forward to this year, playing football with these guys."
With the departure of Hank Beatty, who led the team in receptions and receiving yards last season, Clement's role becomes even more critical. He is expected to step up alongside fellow returnee Collin Dixon to fill the void left by Beatty's graduation.
