The recently inaugurated Football Development Center in Mato Grosso do Sul is being hailed as a catalyst for social and sporting transformation within the state. The facility, which opened on Thursday, October 3, is located in Campo Grande and is anticipated to serve as a foundational pillar for the region's football development.
Estevão Petrallás, the president of the Mato Grosso do Sul Football Federation (FFMS), emphasized the significance of the center, stating that it will enhance the local youth football system. He credited FIFA for its support through the Legacy project linked to the World Cup, highlighting the efforts of President Samir and his team in resuming construction and delivering this vital resource for a sport that continues to grow globally. This new development center marks the eighth facility inaugurated by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) since the revival of the project in July 2025. Prior to Mato Grosso do Sul, similar centers were opened in states including Rondônia, Tocantins, Amapá, Sergipe, Santa Catarina, Espírito Santo, and Piauí. CBF Assets Director Catherine Veloso expressed her joy at the delivery of this center, noting that it is part of a broader initiative to establish six more centers in the upcoming year. Veloso stated, "I’m very happy to see all these kids and to see these Centers becoming a reality."
Reflecting on the impact of such facilities, Ricardo Paul, the CBF vice president and president of the Pará Football Federation, shared insights from his experience with Pará's Development Center, which has been operational since 2015. He described it as a hub for youth competitions and training, underscoring the importance of grassroots investment in Brazilian football. Paul articulated that nurturing young talent through these centers is essential for the technical development of the sport and for fostering social engagement, which ultimately contributes to the renewal of the Brazilian National Team.
