Injured Odafe Oweh returns to Baltimore with the Commanders

Odafe Oweh will return to familiar surroundings Wednesday when the Washington Commanders visit the Baltimore Ravens for a joint practice.

The most anticipated part of the reunion, however, will have to wait.

Oweh has been sidelined by a strained calf and is not expected to participate in the practice. Washington coach Dan Quinn has not provided a firm timetable for his return, although the injury is not believed to be a long-term concern.

That eliminates a potential matchup between Oweh and Baltimore offensive tackles Ronnie Stanley and Roger Rosengarten. It won't diminish the significance of his return. Baltimore selected Oweh with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. He spent four full seasons and five games of the 2025 season with the Ravens, recording 23 sacks in 67 regular-season appearances. His best season in Baltimore came in 2024, when he finished with a career-high 10 sacks.

The Ravens traded Oweh and a future seventh-round selection to the Los Angeles Chargers in October 2025 for safety Alohi Gilman and a 2026 fifth-round pick. Oweh produced 7½ sacks in 12 regular-season games after the trade and added three more during Los Angeles’ playoff appearance.

That finish helped Oweh land a reported four-year, $100 million contract with Washington during free agency. He is expected to hold a significant role in the Commanders’ defensive front once healthy. The trade also produced an interesting connection to Baltimore’s current roster. The Ravens used the fifth-round pick acquired in the deal to select cornerback Chandler Rivers, who has emerged as one of the team’s most impressive rookies during training camp.

Oweh will have an opportunity to reconnect with former teammates and coaches while observing the Ravens organization, which has undergone significant changes since his departure.
