As the Cincinnati Bengals prepare for the upcoming NFL season, All-Pro wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase has yet to return to practice following a knee injury sustained during a training session on August 25. Despite this setback, head coach Zac Taylor expressed confidence in Chase's recovery, stating he is not overly concerned with less than two weeks remaining before the regular season kicks off.

Chase, who hyperextended his knee during practice, reassured reporters that the injury was not severe. He described the incident as a minor mishap, saying, "Just a football play. Missed step, missed my footing, and just a little tweak, but I’m fine. If I had a game tomorrow, I would play." This positive outlook from Chase is encouraging for Bengals fans as they anticipate his return to full practice.

Following the injury, the Bengals opted to hold Chase out of practice on August 26 and chose to rest him along with other starters during their final preseason game on August 28. Cincinnati's coaching staff is taking a cautious approach, allowing Chase ample time to recover. Realistically, the team does not require Chase back on the field until September 7, when they will begin preparations for their season opener against the Cleveland Browns on September 13.

In addition to Chase, fellow wide receiver Tee Higgins is also dealing with an injury. Higgins did not participate in practice on September 1 due to a minor heel contusion. Taylor indicated that while Higgins will be limited in the coming days, he expects him to be ready for action by the end of the week, which is crucial as the Bengals look to solidify their offensive lineup.

On a more positive note, cornerback Dax Hill has returned to practice after spending a significant portion of training camp recovering from a lower body injury. Taylor mentioned that Hill will gradually reintegrate into team drills, which is a welcome development for the Bengals' defense as they prepare for the challenges of the season.

Safety Bryan Cook has been practicing for a week now and is reportedly in good shape after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the preseason. His availability adds depth to the Bengals' secondary as they gear up for the regular season.

Defensive end Shemar Stewart continues to make progress in his recovery from a knee injury that has sidelined him since July 29. Taylor provided an update on Stewart's rehabilitation, noting that he is making strides and is now able to walk without a brace. Stewart was seen running on the rehab field on September 1, indicating that he is trending toward a potential return, which would bolster the Bengals' defensive line.

As the Bengals navigate these injury concerns, they will conduct practice over the next two days before taking a break for the Labor Day weekend. The coaching staff's cautious approach to player health will be critical as they aim to have their key players ready for the start of the regular season.
