Jacob Fields was expected to log heavy minutes in his maiden season in Fort Worth. The senior safety established himself as one of Conference USA's biggest talents during his junior campaign, ending the 2025 season with myriad honors.

Weeks before the 2026 season was set to kick off, the Horned Frogs cut him loose. He was accused of knocking teammate Dozie Ezukanma out during a locker room fracas on Aug. 13.

Per multiple reports, Fields faces one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. His charge is related to an alleged altercation with a teammate on Aug. 13.

Fields allegedly punched TCU wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma in the locker room on Aug. 13. The Horned Frogs' general manager reported the incident to police one day later.

In a since-deleted video posted to Instagram, Ezukanma claimed that Fields "sucker punched" him in the face. His head reportedly struck the floor after absorbing the blow, knocking him unconscious. Ezukanma claimed that Fields kicked him in the head after he fell unconscious. He expressed a desire to see Fields charged with attempted murder, according to the according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“How you gon’ sucker punch me, bro. That’s your teammate,” Ezukanma said in the video.

Fields was dismissed from the program two days after the alleged incident took place.

"Due to a violation of team rules, Jacob Fields has been removed from our roster and will not be a member of our team football team moving forward," a TCU spokesman told ESPN.

What did Jacob Fields do?

Fields is accused of sucker punching Ezukanma during a locker room altercation on Aug. 13. The Horned Frogs wideout claimed that Fields grew frustrated with his inability to stop Ezukanma during TCU's Aug. 12 practice.

“Cause I do you bad at practice, this what you do to your teammates," Ezukanma said in the since-deleted video.

Ezukanma showed an alleged screenshot of Fields apologizing after the alleged incident took place. A source close to Fields confirmed that the text came from Fields, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“I apologize for how I went about this situation,” the screenshot read. “I made an emotional decision cause of how I felt I played the last few practices. The last thing on my mind was for this to be the end result in this situation.... I know I [expletive] up, and I want you to know I never meant for this to turn out the way it did.”

What has Dozie Ezukanma said about locker room fight?

Ezukanma blasted Fields for his actions during a tirade posted to Instagram on Aug. 21. Ezukanma detailed the incidents that led up to the alleged altercation in the since-deleted video, saying Fields sucker punched him after the two jawed with one another during an Aug. 12 practice.

Littered across the video are clips of Ezukanma "routing up" Fields. Ezukanma claimed that Fields sucker punched him because, "He didn't wanna get the ones." In other words, Ezukanma believes Fields was unwilling to fight him one-on-one.

Fields has offered precious few comments in the weeks since the alleged incident took place. His agent confirmed that he had turned himself into Tarrant County police on Sunday morning. He is currently being held in a Tarrant County jail, with ESPN reporting that he is expected to be released on bond on Sunday.
