CRANE, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) - Jai Brown, a standout athlete from Crane, Texas, has made a significant impact in the track and field arena, recently dominating the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation meet. Over the past month, Brown has achieved remarkable feats by breaking three state records in the 100M, 200M, and Long Jump events, solidifying his reputation as a rising star in the sport.

In the 100M, Brown clocked an impressive time of 13.67 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 13.90 seconds set in 1994. His performance in the 200M was equally commendable, as he finished in 27.77 seconds, breaking the former record of 28.45 seconds established in 2014. Additionally, Brown excelled in the Long Jump, achieving a distance of 13 feet 10.75 inches, which exceeded the previous record of 13 feet 9.75 inches set in 2012.

Brown's mother, Rausalyn Brown, who was a two-time state champion during her own athletic career at Crane High School, spoke about her son's intense focus. "When he gets into the mode, he goes very quiet, very silent. You can’t get no conversation out of him," she stated, highlighting the dedication that drives Jai's success.

The Brown family has a rich athletic legacy. Jai's father, Khaled Brown, played college football at Wayland Baptist University, while his great-grandmother, Daisy Jeffery, was part of the Sul Ross Volleyball national championship team in the early 1970s and was later inducted into the university's sports hall of fame. This lineage of athletic excellence extends to Jai's uncle, aunts, and grandfather, who have all competed at the Junior Olympics.

After his record-breaking performances at the state level, Brown advanced to the national competition held in Iowa, where he faced tougher challenges. Despite his dominance in previous events, the 200M race proved to be a nail-biter. "I felt nervous because I thought I lost," Brown admitted, reflecting on the intensity of the race.

Exhibiting the resilience of a true champion, Brown dove across the finish line, a move that ultimately secured his victory. Following the race, he attended the medical tent to tend to a wound incurred during his dive, only to discover that he had won the event. In addition to his triumph in the 200M, Brown also claimed victories in the 100M and Long Jump at the national level, with times of 13.39 seconds in the 100M and 27.80 seconds in the 200M, along with a Long Jump distance of 14 feet 4 inches.

Jai Brown attributes much of his motivation to the unwavering support he receives from his family and coach. "The support is very great. I love that I’m being loved by everyone, even my coach, even my family. I just love that everybody’s supporting me," he expressed, underscoring the importance of community in his athletic journey.

As Brown continues to excel in track and field, his aspirations remain high, with a clear goal in sight: the Olympics. With his talent, determination, and strong support system, the future looks bright for this promising athlete from Crane.
