There are a few Tottenham Hotspur academy grads and reserve players still hanging around the fringes of the first team squad but with few chances to actually play this season. One of those players is Jamie Donley who has looked bright in his appearances for Spurs in preseason, but is still not likely to jump into the Premier League mix in midfield. But according to Alasdair Gold, Donley is set to head to League One side Luton Town, where he’ll join up with former Spurs keeper Josh Keeley.

Honestly, at this point a loan back to League One for Donley is kind of disappointing. Last season he went on loan in the Championship at Stoke City but only made six league appearances for the Potters and was recalled before going back out to League One a bad Championship side in Oxford City where he teamed up with Will Lankshear and did pretty well. In 2024-25 Donley had an excellent loan in the third division with Leyton Orient, where he played in 39 league games and scored 8 goals. So maybe it makes sense? But after what felt like a lot of promise, discovering that League One might just be his level right now feels kinda bad. It is what it is, I guess. All football fans tend to overrate their teams’ youth prospects, it’s natural. But I’m starting to think that Donley is destined to be sold down the table, possibly next summer.

Donley is under contract at Tottenham until 2029.
