Jaxson Dart Receives Increased Reps as Giants Kick Off In-Season Practice

The New York Giants officially commenced their in-season practice on Monday, gathering their initial 53-man roster and integrating practice-squad players later in the day. Head coach John Harbaugh emphasized the importance of this session, which was strategically delayed to allow new additions to acclimate with the team following recent roster adjustments.

This practice was particularly beneficial for quarterback Jaxson Dart, who will enter Week 1 having not participated in live game action for nearly a month. Harbaugh noted that the coaching staff is utilizing a 13-day period leading up to the season opener to enhance timing and execution through increased practice volume.

“Well, as you noticed today, we had a lot of reps out there today,” Harbaugh stated during a press conference. “This is the week – we have 13 days till we play, so we’re working hard on execution. We’re working really hard on that aspect of it. And that’s for the quarterbacks – for everybody too, but we’re trying to get it done in practice to make sure he’s ready to go.”

Harbaugh framed this practice as the beginning of their game week preparations rather than a continuation of training camp. “We had our first practice with that group, sort of our first in-season type of practice today,” he remarked, highlighting the focus on getting ready for their upcoming game.

With the first game of the season now on the horizon, the Giants are treating these practices as critical opportunities to close any gaps in readiness. The roster is finalized, and with Dart needing to ramp up his game readiness, the emphasis is on a concentrated series of reps, particularly for the quarterbacks and the offensive unit.

The Giants' approach reflects a broader strategy as they transition from the off-season to actual competition. Dart's preparation is crucial, especially given the time away from game situations. The upcoming practices are essential for ensuring that he and the rest of the team can execute effectively when the regular season kicks off.
