Boston Celtics fans are noticing a trend.

Jayson Tatum had another workout video go viral this week. This time, instead of complaining about one particular shot, Celtics fans are excited to see the six-time All-Star work on his in-between game.

Tatum was seen doing the same in other workout videos that have made the rounds on social media this offseason.

Tatum is a well-rounded scorer, but he's become quite 3-point happy in recent years.

According to Basketball Reference, 49.8 percent of Tatum's field-goal attempts last season came from 3-point range, a new career high. The worrying part? Only 17.1 percent of his shot attempts came within 3 feet of the basket, a career low.

The caveat is that Tatum played only 16 games last season after returning from a ruptured Achilles. You'd expect a player coming back from a significant Achilles injury to settle for more jump shots as he works his way back into form, but his shot distribution was already trending in that direction in 2024-25.

The result? Tatum's average shot distance has generally moved farther from the basket over the course of his career, with the biggest jump coming in the last two seasons.

Tatum doesn't need to abandon the 3-point shot to benefit from a more diverse shot diet. Adding a reliable in-between game would give defenses another option to worry about. When teams run him off the 3-point line or collapse the paint, Tatum would have another way to punish them. 

That's even more important with Jaylen Brown no longer on the team, as Tatum will be under even more pressure to carry the scoring load.

Looking too much into offseason workout videos is a dangerous game, but if Celtics fans are right, Tatum could look quite different next season and beyond.
