The Jets waived place kicker Cade York on Tuesday morning, reports The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, losing out to veteran Jason Sanders in the kicker battle.
York, 25, went 2-for-2 in field goal attempts in New York's first preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a long of 38 yards. He missed a 59-yarder against the Pittsburgh Steelers a week later for his only try.
During Monday's practice, York missed two attempts out of five with his misses coming from 38 and 43 yards.
A fourth-round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2022 NFL Draft, York has bounced around since then and was trying to stick with the Jets who signed him to a one-year deal in March.
With York cut from the roster, Sanders appears to have won the starting job unless New York signs another kicker before the start of the season.
Sanders went 2-for-2 on field goal attempts in two preseason games, but the veteran also had a rough day at practice on Monday, going just 2-for-5 and missing from 38, 43 and 53 yards.
Still, the 30-year-old has had success during his seven-year career, all with the Miami Dolphins, with an 84.6 percent field-goal percentage and a career-long of 57 yards.
