CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Katin Houser made a significant impact in his first game as the starting quarterback for the Illinois Fighting Illini, throwing three touchdown passes and adding a rushing score to lead his team to a 42-23 victory over the UAB Blazers on Thursday night. This season opener showcased Houser’s abilities and set a positive tone for the Illini’s campaign.
Houser, who transferred from East Carolina, was efficient throughout the game, completing 13 of 17 passes for a total of 182 yards. His performance was highlighted by a strong connection with wide receiver Collin Dixon, who caught six passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, running back Ca’Lil Valentine contributed significantly, rushing 11 times for 88 yards and scoring a touchdown, demonstrating the offensive depth of the Illini.
On the other side, UAB's quarterback Ryder Burton had a commendable outing, completing 18 of 33 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for a score. The Blazers' Jonah Delange added three field goals, attempting to keep UAB competitive throughout the game.
