Kentucky Wildcats News: UK vs. the NCAA

Good morning, BBN!

The Alex Afari and Mark Mitchell saga continues as they continue to fight for their eligibility.

The controversy stems from the NCAA’s new eligibility structure, which does not grant athletes from the 2022 high school class who exhausted their eligibility in 2025-26 another season.

Mitchell took the issue to court and received a temporary injunction on August 21, allowing him to enter the transfer portal before committing to Kentucky.

However, another hurdle emerged when the SEC reaffirmed its rule prohibiting intraconference transfers who did not enter the portal during the spring window.

Mitchell’s attorneys have since amended their complaint as the battle with the NCAA and SEC continues.

Afari briefly rejoined Kentucky after a federal ruling granted 2022 athletes another season, but an appeals court stayed that decision. He is now attempting to join Mitchell’s Kentucky lawsuit.

The NCAA filed its opposition Friday, and Afari’s next major step comes Monday when his case returns to court.

These are two game-changers for both programs, so it’ll be interesting if they can both suit up.
