Rockets star forward Kevin Durant is one of the most prolific basketball players in NBA history. In his 18-year NBA career, he has accumulated several accolades that attest to his legacy. Durant has also been known as a savvy businessman.
Durant and his longtime business partner, Rich Kleiman, have built an investing empire with their company, 35 V (Thirty Five Ventures), with early investments in startups like Coinbase, Postmates, Robinhood, and SeatGeek. Their latest venture with Hugging Face looks to bring another lucrative return.
“Kevin Durant and his business partner, Rich Kleiman, invested in Hugging Face’s seed & Series A fundraising rounds. Nvidia just acquired the company for $12.9 billion, and since I’m told Durant invested $100,000 in the seed round and $150,000 in the Series A, he likely made more than $60 million on this investment alone. That is one of the best athlete investments ever (and more money than Durant will make playing in the NBA this season),” reported sports business entrepreneur and investor Jose Pompoliano via X.
As news of the venture goes public, fans have plenty to add about Durant’s success off the court.
“A major selling point in Lacob’s pitch for him moving to the warriors was an inside track into acquiring equity in silicon valley’s most promising startup’s. We’re going to see more of these “investments” role out over time,” one fan posted on X.
“After grinding through a full NBA season playing defense, making sharp cuts, and enduring the mental exhaustion of clashing with haters you end up earning less than that $250,000 check you once secured just by flicking your finger to sign it a few years back,” another fan added.
“See Kevin you’re not known for a dude who only wins championships when you jumps teams you’re now known for the smartest NBA investor congratulations!!!” someone else wrote.
Can’t wait to see what Durant and Kleiman embark on next ahead of the 2026-’27 NBA season.
