CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kent County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) tied on their cleats for a charity soccer matchup, 'Kick it Forward', Saturday evening benefitting North Kent Connect.
They faced off against alumni and current girls soccer players at Cedar Springs High School.
"Most of us on this team have played soccer or have a passion for soccer. So coming out here and having fun, that's why we're out here for win or lose," said KCSO Sergeant Jon Paulson.
Rain came down hard as the game began but the teams didn't let that ruin the fun.

"Normal soccer game — there would be way more fouls in a regular game. This is more friendly, nobody's biting in too much, but it's really about just having a good time, entertaining yourself, laughing," said Justin Harnden, who was reffing the game.
The competition was tough, with it taking almost the entire first half for anyone to score a goal, but players said it's all in good fun and for a good cause. Proceeds raised from selling tickets for a raffle and a dunk tank will be donated to North Kent Connect, a resource hub offering a pathway out of poverty.
"North Kent Connect is just a wonderful organization. They're nonprofit and they help so many people in this area, in this community, people in need, people in need of food, housing, shelter, employment. So look them up. They're wonderful nonprofit organization," Paulson said.
