The Golden State Warriors have a roster that's already nearing its completion. Only one person remains for Coach Steve Kerr and the rest of the front office to get. Arguably, he is the most important person on the squad if they want to bear any championship title hopes - Stephen Curry.
Latest reports on his contract extension suggest there's cause for concern if a deal doesn't get done soon.
Warriors' Curry contract extension update takes worrying turnMike Dunleavy Jr. has made it apparent that the Warriors are going to sign Stephen Curry to a deal before the start of the 2026-27 NBA season. The Warriors general manager has since been on a mission to build a squad that complements the 38-year-old star, giving him a reason to stay with the franchise and dispelling notions of him testing free agency. With less than two months remaining before the start of the Warriors' 82-game campaign, no deal has been reached.
The Warriors can officially sign their superstar on August 29, but no signs point to that being material yet. In fact, Nick Friedell of The Athletic warns that there is a fair and worrying risk if Curry does not sign soon.
"The overwhelming likelihood has always been that Curry will sign and the Warriors will go about business as usual, with him as the focal point of everything they do. But if he waits, whether as a statement about the roster or simply because he wants to see what happens next, the uncertainty would create the type of lingering distraction that will hover over the group until there is resolution. That’s the catch-22 Curry faces," the NBA reporter wrote.

Many of the Warriors' moves focused on retaining their veterans by signing them to new deals. Draymond Green, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Gary Payton II, and De'Anthony Melton are all set to return to the roster. Dunleavy and the Warriors front office only had two external signings from free agency: Georges Niang and Brandon Williams. Yaxel Lendeborg becomes the sole addition that the Warriors front office committed to during the NBA Draft.
"There has been frustration from within the Warriors’ fan base that the cap-strapped team didn’t do more this summer to shake up a roster that missed the playoffs last year. But the ultimate barometer of just how high that frustration goes is, and always will be, Curry himself," Friedell added.
