Lazio Targets Free Agents Mauro Icardi and Joselu for Striker Position

Lazio is actively seeking to bolster their attacking options as the Serie A season progresses. The Biancocelesti are reportedly eyeing free agents Mauro Icardi and Joselu to strengthen their forward line. This comes on the heels of their recent acquisition of Andrea Pinamonti, but with Petar Ratkov poised to join Levante and Boulaye Dia nearing a move to Stade Rennais, Lazio may need another striker to complement their squad under coach Gennaro Gattuso.

The interest in Mauro Icardi has been rekindled in recent weeks. The Argentine forward, who has previously enjoyed successful stints with Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, has been a free agent since leaving Galatasaray in June. Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reported that Lazio has made a renewed effort to bring the 33-year-old to Rome, although a definitive response from Icardi has yet to be received.

In a recent interview with Sky Sport Italia, Icardi’s lawyer, Letterio Pino, acknowledged Lazio’s interest, stating, "We’re evaluating the best plan with Mauro, a lifestyle plan, not a financial one. Mauro wants to choose a beautiful city and a strong club. Lazio is actively pursuing him, and it’s an option we’re considering." However, conflicting reports from Lazio insiders suggest that the club may not be fully committed to pursuing Icardi at this time.

Alongside Icardi, Lazio is also considering Joselu, another experienced striker currently available as a free agent. According to Florian Plettenberg, a correspondent for Sky Sport DE, Lazio is among several clubs monitoring Joselu’s situation. The Spanish forward, who has had a diverse career across Europe, including stints at Deportivo, Newcastle, and Espanyol, is best known for his recent season at Real Madrid, where he contributed to their Champions League victory. Additionally, Joselu played a pivotal role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph.

Joselu's experience and proven track record make him an attractive option for Lazio, especially as they look to enhance their attacking depth. While Eintracht Frankfurt appears to be the frontrunner for his signature, Lazio, along with Union Berlin and various Spanish clubs, has expressed interest in the 36-year-old.

As the transfer window progresses, Lazio's pursuit of both Icardi and Joselu highlights their intent to secure a more formidable attacking presence. With the Serie A campaign underway, the addition of either player could significantly impact the team's performance and aspirations for the season.
