LENA, Ill. — The Lena-Winslow Panthers returned to their home field on Friday night, eager to bounce back after suffering two consecutive losses against formidable 5A and 6A teams. In a crucial Class 1A matchup, the Panthers showcased their strength and determination, defeating NUIC rival Forreston with a final score of 30-14.
Leading the charge for Lena-Winslow was senior running back Ian Geiseman, who had an impressive performance, rushing for 146 yards on 18 carries and scoring all four touchdowns for his team. His ability to find gaps in the Forreston defense was pivotal in securing the victory. Additionally, junior Hudson Raders contributed significantly with 104 rushing yards on 11 carries, while teammates Marrik Mahon and Easton Bardell added 69 and 64 yards, respectively, further solidifying the Panthers' ground game.
On the other side of the field, Forreston’s offense was led by quarterback Connor Politsch, who managed to gain 40 yards on 11 carries. Politsch also had a hand in the passing game, completing four passes for nine yards and tossing two touchdowns. Both of his touchdown passes were caught by Jonathan Milnes, with the first being a long 75-yard completion and the second covering 62 yards. Despite the loss, Politsch’s dual-threat capability kept the game competitive.
This victory marks a significant turnaround for Lena-Winslow, improving their record to 1-2 for the season. The Panthers had been searching for a win after facing tough opponents in the early weeks, and this performance against Forreston not only boosts their morale but also sets the tone for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, Forreston falls to 2-1, and they will need to regroup quickly as they look to maintain their strong start in the NUIC.
As the season progresses, both teams will be looking to refine their strategies and build on their performances.
