PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — Teams of Lima area dancers brought home the sport’s most prestigious titles this summer, clinching national grand championship titles in a world dance competition.

The Arts Center of Shawnee took competitive teams in acrobatic, contemporary, tap and lyrical dance to the World Dance Championship in Newark in late July and to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, for the national finals in June.

“Our competitive dancers and their instructors dedicate hundreds of hours a year to strength training and flexibility, to perfecting leaps and turns, and to polishing choreography,” said studio owner Jill Garlock.

At the world championship TAC dancers earned second overall in acrobatics and made it to the finals in two tap performances. At nationals, TAC dance teams won two national grand championships and earned 30 overall high point awards and special judges’ awards.

Garlock won top honors for her original choreography at the nationals competition and TAC’s Senior Elite Contemporary were named champions of Star Dance Alliance Power rankings in region 7.
