As LeBron James gets settled in with the Philadelphia 76ers, it appears he's bringing some of his people with him to help the transition be easier for him.
Per the team's official staff directory, the Sixers have hired longtime James confidant Randy Mims as Executive Administrator of Player Programs & Logistics. Mims has been a longtime friend of James and has helped him throughout his career, including his first real transition in the league when James joined the Miami Heat in the 2010 offseason.
An excerpt from an ESPN article from 2025 will explain just how important Mims is to James both for his career and his personal life. The context was it was James' first year in Miami and how he struggled a bit to be away from his family, who were all in Cleveland.
"I'm coming over," James told him. "I need to talk to you."
It was just after 3 in the morning.
Mims hardly had enough time to throw on clothes as James made the 10-minute drive from his hotel to Mims' place in nearby Coconut Grove. When Mims emerged from his front door, he found a burgundy Bentley in the driveway. James, just 25 at the time, had parked himself on the hood. He was crying.
"I'm not sure I'm doing this right," James said. "I'm not sure I made the right decision to come here."
He wasn't talking to "The Chosen One." He was consoling a friend, a kid who used to borrow Mims' polo uniforms when he sold devices at Cingular Wireless and wear them to St. Vincent-St. Mary to pass the high school's dress code.
"You got this, man," Mims told James. "We're going to figure this whole thing out. I get it. It's a little new for you."
Mims being in Philadelphia is obviously hugely important for James due to their relationship together and it appears the longtime confidant and friend will do wonders for this transition as well. The future Hall of Famer will be away from his family as son Bronny James continues his career with the Los Angeles Lakers and son Bryce James plays at Arizona University. It will help to have a familiar face there with him in the form of Mims.
