Longview beats Lufkin for 89th rivalry match

LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) -- After a battle with cancer, the Lobos Head Coach John King is back for the Longview-Lufkin rivalry, the final game he coached last season before undergoing surgery for mouth cancer.

FINAL SCORE: Longview 59 - Lufkin 7

"We know he is always watching us, and even though he's not here, we still have to take care of what we have to take care of and stick to the plan, so even though he's not here, not watching, some of us have to step up as leaders to make sure everybody stays on the right track," Longview quarterback Tre Hamilton said. 

Following the win, the Lobos will head back home and prepare to face the Marshall Mavericks for their home opener next Friday.

Meanwhile, the Panthers will look to pick their first win of the season on the road next Friday against the Nacogdoches Dragons.
