Lonzo Ball has revealed the reason for taking control of his career after starting under the guidance of his father, LaVar Ball. The former Utah Jazz guard is currently an unrestricted free agent and was recently featured on Michael Porter Jr.’s podcast, “Curious Mike,” on Monday. Ball is part of a strong and controversial basketball family, but he recently had some disagreements with his father, leading to his exit from the crew.
During the conversation with Porter, Ball detailed how he was led into the Ball family’s personal shoe brand, Big Baller Brand. He also expressed regret for letting his father control the business decisions at the start of his career:
“I was just following my pops and doing what I was told.”
Ball also revealed what he would like to change in the way he handled his NBA deals and other business decisions:
“If I could go back, I would get an agent, be in the meetings myself, do what I wanted to do. I didn’t like the shoes. I addressed that I didn’t like the shoes, but then we would get into an argument. It would be like, ‘If you didn’t wear the shoes, you’re going against family.'”
Ball also highlighted that the BBB shoes were not good enough:
“The shoe wasn’t a basketball shoe, bro. It wasn’t ready to be used. I tried to play in it, but it would rip and pop out every quarter.”
Lonzo Ball is currently looking for a team after the Utah Jazz waived him this offseason. He is represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports after his relationship with his father slowly deteriorated.
Lonzo Ball reveals LaMelo Ball gets into a “lot of situations on the road”During the conversation with Michael Porter Jr., Lonzo Ball also shared his thoughts on the one who earns the most money in the family. Instantly naming LaMelo Ball, the elder brother revealed that LaMelo often gets into situations on the road.
Ball said:
“He actually doesn’t get in accidents, but he has a lot of, like, situations on the road, yes. But he did get into an accident recently. … But he got a driver now, though.”
LaMelo Ball is now in Minnesota and will accompany Anthony Edwards next season. Only time will tell how that combination turns out.
