247Sports considers LSU football one of the most talented teams in the country, according to its 2026 team talent composite rankings. LSU ranks No. 8 in the country on a talent measurement system using 247Sports high school and JUCO player ratings.
Among SEC teams, LSU is No. 5. The Tigers trail behind No. 1 Georgia, Alabama, Texas and Texas A&M. There are 13 teams from the conference in the top 25 with the Big Ten pulling into second with seven teams. LSU's week one opponent, Clemson, is No. 16.
Head coach Lane Kiffin retained LSU's most talented players from last season, such as former five-star recruits DJ Pickett and Harlem Berry, while also keeping the biggest pieces of its 2026 high school signing class together, such as five-star defensive linemen Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson.

LSU boasts a roaster loaded with former consensus four-star high school recruits but not all originally chose the school. Kiffin raided the transfer portal, signing the top class in the spring. He brought several players from his last stop at Ole Miss and landed the portal's top player in quarterback Sam Leavitt.
