The Minnesota Lynx’s eight-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday after losing to the Atlanta Dream, 89-81, at Gateway Center.
It was a tight affair between the two playoff-bound teams, but the Dream did enough in crunch time to fend off the Lynx. Minnesota, which fell to 31-9, suffered only its third loss on the road this season. Atlanta, meanwhile, improved to 26-14.
Despite their loss, Olivia Miles had a solid game of 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting and five assists. She also set a team record for most points by a rookie in a season with 749 and counting, surpassing the previous mark of Seimone Augustus in 2006.

Like Miles, Augustus was a blue-chip newcomer. She was the No. 1 pick by Minnesota in the WNBA Draft and went on to win four titles with the team. She was named Finals MVP in 2011 after leading the Lynx past, incidentally, the Dream in the WNBA Finals.
Miles, the No. 2 pick out of TCU, is sure to be named Rookie of the Year for her prolific numbers and for helping Minnesota to the league’s best record despite the extended absence of Napheesa Collier.
Even with the return of Collier in July, the 23-year-old firebrand did not lose a step, repaying the trust given to her by coach Cheryl Reeve.
Miles is by no means a finished product, and Reeve has not held back in pointing out the young guard’s mistakes. She, however, is playing like a foundational piece, and she could be the final piece of the puzzle for the Lynx’s quest to reclaim the championship they last won in 2017.
