Manav Suthar, the young Indian spinner who made headlines with a stellar Test debut against Afghanistan, is set to return to Warwickshire for the final stretch of the County Championship season. Suthar's debut in June was nothing short of sensational; he recorded a remarkable six-wicket haul, achieving figures of 6-33, which ranks as the third-best innings performance by an Indian debutant in Test history.
Following his impressive introduction to international cricket, Suthar signed a short-term contract with Warwickshire, where he continued to showcase his talent by taking 11 wickets across just two matches, including a notable five-wicket haul. His contributions have been vital for the team, and the club has now secured his services for the last four matches of the season against Hampshire, Glamorgan, Essex, and Leicestershire, with the first match kicking off on September 2.
In addition to his county commitments, Suthar has been retained in the India Test squad for an upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka, which will take place later in August. The second Test is scheduled for August 23-27, providing Suthar with a brief gap before he re-joins Warwickshire for the conclusion of their campaign. This dual involvement in international and county cricket highlights his rapid ascent in the sport.
Throughout his first-class career, Suthar has demonstrated impressive statistics, having taken 147 wickets in 32 matches at an average of 25.13. His ability to claim eight five-wicket hauls, along with a personal best of 8-33, underscores his potential as a key player for both his county and national team. Additionally, he has amassed 1,071 runs with the bat, including a century, showcasing his all-round capabilities.
Warwickshire has also bolstered their squad by signing New Zealand batsman Will Young for the remainder of the County Championship season. Young previously played three matches for Warwickshire at the end of the 2025 season, where he made contributions with scores of 72, 31 not out, 48, and nine. This will mark Young's sixth season in the County Championship, having previously represented Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, and Durham. Over his first-class career, he has accumulated 8,720 runs in 143 matches, averaging 39.27, with 16 centuries to his name and a highest score of 174 not out.
As the County Championship nears its conclusion, both Suthar and Young will be crucial to Warwickshire's ambitions. With Suthar's recent Test success and Young's experience, the team is looking to finish the season on a high note, making the most of their talents in the final matches ahead.
