TYLER, Texas — Grace Community School has officially named Mark Anderson as the new head coach of the girls' soccer team, a decision announced on Friday. Anderson, who previously served as the boys' soccer coach from 1995 to 2000, is stepping into this role following the tenure of Chris Hemphill, a highly regarded coach in the program's history.
During his earlier time at Grace, Anderson achieved significant success, leading the Cougars to a state championship in 1998 and guiding several teams to the final four in subsequent years. His return to the program is seen as a homecoming, as he expressed in a statement, saying, "Grace is a special place for myself and my wife. My life as a coach and teacher began here and I feel like I am coming home after a long journey." Anderson emphasized his excitement not only for coaching but also for the opportunity to inspire players to serve God through their competitive efforts.
In addition to Anderson's appointment, the Cougar soccer program is expanding its reach into Grace Middle School with the hiring of Emma Jones as the assistant high school soccer coach and the head coach for the middle school program. Jones brings valuable experience to her new role, having played college soccer at Louisiana Tech University, where she served as team captain for two years. Her coaching background includes positions at Ruston High School and the University of Texas at Tyler, and she most recently worked as a personal trainer at Fusion Athletic Club.
Francis, a representative from the school, expressed enthusiasm about the new coaching staff, stating, "We are excited to bring Coach Anderson and Coach Jones to Grace and have them lead our incredibly dedicated and talented players. Their successful track record, love for the Lord, passion for their players, and the game of soccer make them the right fit to lead our program to new heights." This sentiment highlights the school's commitment to fostering a competitive yet faith-driven environment for its athletes.
The addition of Anderson and Jones is expected to invigorate the Grace Community School soccer program, which has a history of success and a strong foundation. As the new season approaches, players and fans alike are eager to see how the team will develop under their guidance.
