Mark Sanchez, the former USC and NFL quarterback, is set to plead guilty in relation to a physical confrontation with a 69-year-old truck driver in Indianapolis last October. Online court records indicate that Sanchez’s legal team has filed a joint motion with the opposing counsel to schedule a guilty plea and sentencing hearing.
The motion, which was submitted on Thursday, requests that the judge replace the previously scheduled jury trial, originally set to commence on Tuesday, with a sentencing hearing slated for November. According to a police affidavit, the incident occurred during the first weekend of October when Sanchez was in Indianapolis to cover a Colts game for Fox Sports. The altercation began when Sanchez confronted Perry Tole, the truck driver, after he had backed his vehicle into the loading docks of a downtown hotel. Following the incident, Sanchez faced serious legal repercussions, being charged with a level five felony for battery resulting in serious bodily injury, alongside several misdemeanors including battery resulting in injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.
While the specific charges to which Sanchez will plead guilty have not been disclosed, the ramifications of the incident have been significant. Tole has filed a civil suit against Sanchez, claiming he has endured severe permanent disfigurement, loss of function, emotional distress, and other damages as a result of the altercation.
