As Manchester United prepares for their upcoming Premier League match against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium, manager Michael Carrick took the opportunity to address the media and discuss several key topics concerning his squad. The match is set to kick off at 14:00 BST on Sunday.

In his pre-match press conference, Carrick reflected on the club's recent transfer activity, emphasizing the goal of strengthening the team compared to last season. He stated, "We went into the window wanting to come out stronger from the group we had last season and we have definitely added to that. I think we have done some really good business." Carrick acknowledged the financial constraints the club faces but expressed satisfaction with the new players brought into the squad.

On the topic of player fitness, Carrick provided an update on Benjamin Sesko, who has been recovering from injury. The young forward is reportedly making progress, with Carrick noting, "Ben is improving his fitness all the time. He made big strides last season, he is still young and adapting and developing. There is loads more to come." This is a positive sign for United, as Sesko's return could bolster their attacking options.

Carrick also discussed the addition of three new midfielders to the squad and how they might be utilized throughout the season. He mentioned the importance of flexibility within the team, stating, "There is a balance there and we need to get it right - the feeling we have on different partnerships and combinations we can rely on." Given the unpredictable nature of injuries and suspensions, Carrick is keen on establishing effective midfield partnerships that can adapt to various game situations.

Another player of interest is Patrick Dorgu, who has not yet played as a left-back for Manchester United. Carrick highlighted Dorgu's versatility, saying, "He can certainly play there, he has done. I am not sitting here saying he can't do that." Carrick views Dorgu as a valuable asset, especially considering his contributions in training and his experience playing in different positions.

Additionally, Carrick spoke highly of Joshua Zirkzee, emphasizing his importance to the squad's depth. "Josh is important for the team, for the squad, the depth. Josh is happy here and I have a really good relationship with him," Carrick remarked. He acknowledged Zirkzee's desire for more playing time while recognizing the healthy competition within the team.

As the team gears up for the match against Everton, Carrick is aware of the challenges that lie ahead. He remarked, "However long I have been going to Everton, every single game has been as tough as they come. Whatever position we are in, whenever I have been there it has been tough. We are expecting as tough a game as it gets." With this mindset, Carrick aims to prepare his players for what promises to be a competitive encounter.
