As RB Leipzig gears up for their first away match of the Bundesliga season against Werder Bremen on Saturday at 15:30 CEST, head coach Micho is keen to build on the team's successful home opener against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Red Bulls are looking to secure another three points to maintain their momentum early in the season.
In a pre-match press conference, Micho shared insights about the upcoming clash at the Weserstadion, highlighting the challenges posed by Werder Bremen. Despite Bremen's recent defeat, Micho remains cautious, recalling his own experiences playing there. "The games I played in Bremen during my career were never easy. Werder’s defeat last weekend doesn’t mean anything – this will be a different game. We’ll try to play our football and come away with the three points. Just like last weekend, we want to take control of the game from the very start," he stated.
RB Leipzig faces a challenge with the injury of Rocco, who had a strong performance in their last match. Micho expressed disappointment over Rocco's situation but remains optimistic about his recovery. "Rocco was excellent at the weekend, so it’s a real shame that he’s picked up an injury. Unfortunately, these things can happen. But he’s mentally strong and he’s a winner. Hopefully, he’ll be back with us after the international break," he said.
In light of Rocco's absence, Micho has several options to consider for the starting lineup. He mentioned players like Brajan Gruda and Andrija Maksimovic as potential replacements, as well as Neil El Aynaoui, who recently joined the squad. Micho also noted that Assan Ouédraogo has returned to training and could be in contention. "We have several different options, and I haven’t made my decision yet," he added.
Micho expressed satisfaction with the depth of his squad, particularly highlighting the recent additions of Marc Guiu and Neil El Aynaoui. He believes both players will significantly contribute to the team's performance. "Marc matured a lot during his time with Chelsea in the Premier League, even if he didn’t play as often as he would have liked. We have high hopes that he can help us in different situations. He’s quick, he can press and he gives us height. Neil is a very good option both as a number six and a number eight. He’s an experienced playmaker and can help us in a number of different roles," Micho explained.
With the Bundesliga season intensifying, Micho emphasized the importance of teamwork and competition within the squad. "The club has worked hard and we’re now where we wanted to be. From now on, we’ll be playing every three or four days. Everyone is fighting for a place and everyone is really up for it. We can only do this together – there’s no other way," he concluded.
As Leipzig prepares for this crucial fixture, the focus will be on maintaining their winning form and leveraging their squad depth to navigate the challenges ahead in the Bundesliga.
