SAN ANGELO, Texas — In a highly anticipated matchup on Friday, September 4, the Miles Bulldogs faced off against the Christoval Cougars, marking the second week of the 2026 high school football season. The game was particularly significant for Christoval, as it was their homecoming event, but the Bulldogs had other plans.

The contest began with a strong showing from Miles, who quickly established dominance. The Bulldogs scored their first touchdown in the opening quarter, taking a 7-0 lead. Senior quarterback Liam Yancy showcased his skills shortly thereafter, connecting with wide receiver Jaxton Bogs for a touchdown in the corner of the end zone, extending the lead to 13-0.

As the game progressed, the tension escalated during a pivotal drive for the Cougars. Junior quarterback Ty Debusk attempted to make a play by scrambling to his right, but the Bulldogs' defense was relentless. Kaden Karmany made a critical play by forcing a fumble, which was recovered by Cooper Smith, resulting in another touchdown for Miles and pushing their lead to 19-0.

In a bizarre twist, the ensuing two-point conversion attempt by the Bulldogs turned into an unexpected turn of events. Yancy's pass was intercepted by Christoval's Jett Whitlow, who showcased his speed by returning the interception for a pick-two, narrowing the score to 19-2.

Despite the setback, the Bulldogs maintained their composure and continued to control the game. They ultimately secured a 27-15 victory, evening their season record at 1-1. Meanwhile, the Cougars also fell to a 1-1 record following this tough loss.

Looking ahead, Miles will host its homecoming game in week three against Reagan County, while Christoval will travel to McCamey for their next matchup. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. CST, as both teams aim to improve their standings in the season.
