MISSOULA – In a competitive nonconference football game held on Friday, September 4, the Missoula Big Sky Eagles rallied in the second half to secure a 28-14 victory over the Great Falls High Bison at Missoula County Public Schools Stadium. The matchup showcased the resilience of both teams, but ultimately, Big Sky's late-game performance proved decisive.
The Bison, who are still searching for their first win of the season with a record of 0-2, started strong and took a 14-13 lead into halftime. Quarterback Tristan O’Leary was instrumental in this effort, connecting on two touchdown passes to receivers Hunter Christensen and Kayden Davison. However, a blocked extra point proved costly, as it left Great Falls with a narrow one-point advantage at the break.
Despite the promising start, the second half belonged to the Eagles. Big Sky, which improved to 2-0 with this win, responded with two unanswered touchdowns while shutting out the Bison's offense. The Eagles' defense tightened its grip, preventing Great Falls from scoring in the final two quarters, showcasing their ability to adapt and dominate when it mattered most.
Big Sky quarterback Eli Kasberg played a pivotal role in the victory, completing 13 of 24 passes for 151 yards, including one touchdown through the air and another on the ground. Additionally, Kasberg led the Eagles in rushing, accumulating 100 yards on the ground. His dual-threat capability was a significant factor in the Eagles' offensive strategy.
After the game, Big Sky head coach Matt Johnson praised Great Falls High for their execution and game plan. "Hats off to Great Falls High man, they had a great game plan and executed their stuff well, and it was really good for us because we needed to face that kind of stuff," Johnson remarked, highlighting the competitive spirit of the matchup.
Looking ahead, the Bison will begin their Eastern AA schedule on Friday, September 11, as they travel to face Billings West, who currently holds a 2-0 record.
