Major League Baseball has officially unveiled its award winners for August, recognizing several standout performances from young athletes. This month’s honors highlight the exceptional talent emerging in the league, with players from the Kansas City Royals, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, and Milwaukee Brewers making their mark.
Leading the pack is Jac Caglianone of the Kansas City Royals, who earned the title of American League Player of the Month. The 23-year-old right fielder had an extraordinary month, boasting a batting average of .411 with a .429 on-base percentage and a .684 slugging percentage. His six home runs and 26 runs batted in helped him achieve an impressive 1.113 OPS, the highest in Major League Baseball for August. This accolade marks the first monthly award of Caglianone's career, underscoring his rapid ascent in the league.
On the National League side, Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong claimed the Player of the Month award after a powerful showing that included 14 home runs, the most in the league for August. His performance contributed to a record-setting month for the Cubs, as they hit a National League record of 62 home runs in August. Crow-Armstrong also maintained a solid 1.069 OPS and drove in 28 runs, adding to his previous monthly award won in June.
The pitching honors were also noteworthy, with Noah Cameron of the Royals taking home the American League Pitcher of the Month award. Cameron delivered an outstanding performance throughout August, posting a 1.87 ERA over five starts, including a remarkable one-hit shutout against the Los Angeles Angels on August 16. This recognition is a significant milestone in Cameron's career as it marks his first monthly award.
In the National League, Jesús Luzardo of the Philadelphia Phillies was named Pitcher of the Month after an impressive August, where he recorded a 1.31 ERA across five starts. Luzardo struck out 46 batters in 34⅓ innings, demonstrating his dominance on the mound by allowing two or fewer earned runs in each of his outings.
Additionally, the Rookie of the Month honors went to Tristan Peters of the Chicago White Sox in the American League, who posted a 1.054 OPS and showcased his power with a five-game home run streak from August 22-26. Meanwhile, Sal Stewart of the Cincinnati Reds was awarded the National League Rookie of the Month, hitting .304 with eight home runs and 21 RBIs. Finally, the Reliever of the Month awards were claimed by Josh Hader of the Houston Astros in the American League and Trevor Megill of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League.
