Head Coach Krystal Trammell expressed her optimism regarding the new season, noting the unique dynamics of each team. "Each team is different, and what we’re trying to do is just look at the girls that we have and put them in positions that they’re going to be successful," she stated. The talent pool this year is impressive, and Trammell is eager to see how the girls will perform on the court.
During the initial practices, Trammell highlighted a significant influx of talent joining the program this year. "We had a huge turnout again, and I know it was really difficult decisions of who to keep and who to cut," she said. Teams like Wenatchee, Davis, West Valley, and Eastmont are expected to be formidable opponents. "I don’t believe the league lost a lot. We lost a little bit more, and so we’re taking this year to get back onto the court and do what we need to do," she noted, reinforcing the challenge that lies ahead.
Despite the stiff competition, Trammell is confident in her returning players, particularly captain Madison Whitwer. "She’s our captain, and she’s been on varsity for four years, and she leads in a great, fantastic way," Trammell remarked. The coach highlighted the strong chemistry among the returning players and the new additions, which she believes will enhance the team’s performance.
Consistency will be key for the Mavericks as they strive to secure victories this season. Trammell emphasized the importance of developing team culture and trust among players. "It’s consistency. It’s a lot of trust. They trust each other early on, and so it’s pretty amazing to see that. They rely on each other, and they talk a lot," she explained, indicating that strong communication will be vital for the team’s success.
In a nod to school spirit, the Mavericks volleyball team has a tradition of naming honorary captains for their home games. For their first match, they have selected several members of the administration, including Sheila Kries, the head principal, and assistant principals Karen Schotzko and Thomas Jay. Trammell expressed the idea behind this choice: "We thought ‘why not start with our admin on the bench and get the school spirit and the school year started.’" This initiative aims to foster a sense of community and support as the season kicks off.
