David Moyes has confirmed Nottingham Forest have made an offer for Harrison Armstrong but does not know whether it will be accepted.
Armstrong started in Everton’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth and impressed despite the speculation surrounding his future, with Moyes praising the youngster’s work rate.
“I know that there’s been an offer so apart from that I don’t really think there’s much else,” Moyes said.
“It’s not really a question for just now, it will be a club decision.”
Moyes was reluctant to discuss the 19-year-old’s situation in detail but was pleased with his performance after he played a key role in Everton earning a point.
“I don’t really want to talk too much about it to be honest but I’ll try and answer the question a little bit because I’m not going to give you a page full of Harrison Armstrong stuff,” he added.
“I thought Harrison played really well today. He did a lot of good work, ran out of legs a little bit later in the game, but it’s amazing the effort he puts in.”
Moyes reiterated that Everton need to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes, regardless of whether Armstrong stays at Goodison Park.
“Without losing anybody, which we obviously don’t want to do, we still need to add players to what we’ve got,” he said.
“I’ve been saying it for quite a while, I’ve been alluding to it, that we need to add.
“I think we’ve got some young, promising players, and we’ve got some things that are looking quite good.
“But even today, Hayden with his ankle, we just didn’t want to risk him too soon, and Jimmy we’ve had to bring back quicker than we wanted with his hernia, and I think it showed a bit today for Jimmy a little bit.
“We’re not that strong at the moment, squad wise.”
Moyes was also asked about the possibility of signing a new right-back but could offer no update.
“I don’t know,” he said.
The Everton boss had a message for the club’s supporters too amid some dissatisfaction expressed in the stands, including chants of “don’t sell Armstrong”.
“If I could say something to them, I’d say their manager is an Evertonian,” Moyes said.
“You always have to consider supporters,” he continued when asked about the possibility of Armstrong leaving upsetting the supporters. “They’re not always wrong.
“But then there’s also times where unfortunately I’ve had people at clubs who are really powerful and make difficult decisions. Decisions that are not always popular but sometimes they have to do it for different reasons.
“I’m sure the club will make what they think is the right one.”
