Mykhailo Mudryk, the Ukrainian forward whose doping suspension recently concluded, has officially joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan from Chelsea for the 2026/27 season. This move, confirmed by both London clubs on Tuesday, marks a significant step in Mudryk's career as he seeks to regain his form.
The 25-year-old winger is set to reunite with Roberto De Zerbi, his former coach at Shakhtar Donetsk, who took the reins at Spurs in March. De Zerbi expressed enthusiasm about Mudryk's arrival, stating, "I will demand a lot from Misha (Mudryk), and it is our job to help him find the best version of himself. If we do that, then he can become a very important player for us."
De Zerbi's confidence in Mudryk is evident, as he added, "I am very happy he chose to come here, and I cannot wait to work with him again." This partnership could be crucial for Mudryk, who has not played an official match since November 2024 due to his suspension.
The Football Association cleared Mudryk to return to the pitch in late July after reaching an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). This agreement led to the withdrawal of Mudryk's appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, allowing him to resume his football career. He faced a four-year suspension after testing positive for a low concentration of meldonium in a drug test conducted in 2024.
Since his suspension, Mudryk has made only a brief appearance for Chelsea during pre-season in August, but he has yet to feature in a league match this season. His last competitive appearance came when he played for Chelsea in November 2024, highlighting the lengthy absence from the game.
Signed from Shakhtar Donetsk for a reported fee of £62 million ($83 million) in January 2023, Mudryk was once considered one of the most promising talents in European football. His time at Chelsea has been marred by challenges, but the loan to Tottenham presents an opportunity for a fresh start.
As Mudryk embarks on this new chapter with Spurs, all eyes will be on him to see if he can reclaim his status as a key player in the Premier League. With De Zerbi's guidance and support, there is hope that Mudryk can rediscover his best form and contribute significantly to Tottenham's campaign this season.
