The New York Jets are actively seeking to bolster their quarterback depth as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season. On Thursday, the team hosted workouts for two notable prospects: Will Levis, a former second-round draft pick, and Jack Plummer, the MVP of the United Football League (UFL).
According to reports from The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, both quarterbacks are being considered for a position on the Jets' practice squad. Currently, the Jets' quarterback room features Geno Smith and rookie Cade Klubnik, but the organization is clearly looking for additional options to ensure they have sufficient coverage.
Will Levis, 27, is the more prominent name of the two. Selected by the Tennessee Titans as a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Levis's career has been marked by ups and downs. He started his rookie season with a promising performance over the first nine games, but his trajectory took a downturn in 2024 when he struggled with turnovers. After the Titans drafted Cam Ward with the first overall pick in 2025, Levis suffered a season-ending injury and was ultimately released by the team during the recent cutdown period.
Despite his challenges, Levis possesses impressive physical attributes, including a strong arm and the agility to evade defenders and make plays on the run. However, his career statistics reflect the struggles he has faced, as he holds a record of 5-16 in 21 starts, accumulating 3,899 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He also lost the backup quarterback competition in Tennessee to Mitchell Trubisky during the preseason.
On the other hand, Jack Plummer, 26, represents a less experienced option. The former Louisville quarterback went undrafted and did not see any action in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers. However, he found success in the UFL, where he led the league in passing yards with 2,188 and finished second in touchdown passes with 17, earning him the title of UFL MVP.
Levis's familiarity with the Titans' offensive system could provide an added advantage for the Jets, especially as they prepare to face Tennessee in their season opener on September 13. Having spent the offseason learning under Brian Daboll, the Jets' offense could benefit from Levis's insider knowledge of the Titans' strategies.
As the Jets continue their search for quarterback depth, the workouts with Levis and Plummer indicate that they are not yet satisfied with their current roster. While they may claim to be set at the backup quarterback position, these recent evaluations suggest that the Jets are keeping their options open as they head into the new season.
