Newcastle United overcame Tottenham Hotspur to continue their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 campaign.
The Magpies took the lead through Anthony Elanga before Yoane Wissa doubled it to hand Matthias Jaissle’s team all three points.
Elanga has finally found his groove after struggling last season following his arrival at Newcastle.
Wissa has also shaken off the injuries and looks like a brand new signing for the Geordies.
However, arguably the most impressive player on the pitch for Newcastle was right-back Amar Dedic, who has been a revelation.
The Bosnian joined the Tyneside outfit this summer and has already delivered three assists in three appearances across all competitions.
Against Spurs, the 24-year-old Newcastle defender was in inspired form, providing the assist for Elanga’s goal while helping to keep the clean sheet.
He won 6/8 duels, registered two key passes, and completed his two attempted crosses. He made four clearances and blocked one shot.
Dedic was terrific on both sides of the ball and, based on these early showings, is an upgrade on Valentino Livramento, who struggles in the final third.
Dedic is quickly looking like a steal for the £29.5 million Newcastle paid to bring him to Tyneside. This was an ‘intelligent‘ performance.
If these early performances are anything to go by, he could end up being the bargain of the summer. He has wasted little time settling into Jaissle’s system.
His energy, physicality and quality in possession have given the Magpies another dimension down the right.
His ability to contribute in the final third has been particularly impressive. Dedic’s all-round performances have been just as encouraging.
Newcastle may have unearthed a genuine gem from the Red Bull pipeline.
No wonder journalists at the press conference asked Jaissle if he had any other former players he wanted to bring to England.
Interestingly, Newcastle have been linked with Luka Sucic, who also worked with Jaissle at RB Salzburg.
