SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (SANFORD) --- Creighton closed the showcase with a 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 victory over USC on Sunday. After dropping a tightly contested opening set, the Bluejays won three consecutive frames to finish their weekend with two victories over ranked opponents.
Shadd-Ceres led Creighton with 13 kills on .357 hitting, while Hayes and Eloise Brandewie each added 10. Brandewie committed just one attack error on 16 swings to hit .562. Creighton hit .266 as a team and recorded 53 kills, while Damrow collected 21 digs.
Wijay and Mullen each recorded 13 kills for USC, with Faumuina adding nine. Etter finished with 40 assists, and Taylor Deckert collected 10 digs. The Trojans hit .231 and totaled nine team blocks.
USC captured the opening set, 25-23, before Creighton responded with victories of 25-22 and 25-21. The Bluejays then hit .273 in the fourth and closed the match with a 25-19 victory.
The win completed a 2-1 weekend for Creighton, with victories over Purdue and USC surrounding Saturday’s loss to Minnesota. USC finished its Sioux Falls trip 1-1, while Arizona State and Minnesota also finished 1-1.
