In a commanding performance, the No. 23 Washburn Ichabods secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Drury University on Wednesday night at Yager Stadium. After a scoreless first half, the Ichabods came alive in the second half, demonstrating their offensive capabilities and solidifying their position in the competitive landscape of college soccer.

The first half of the match saw the Ichabods struggling to convert opportunities, despite generating eight shots. Washburn's inability to find the back of the net during this period left the game wide open for Drury, who managed to contain the Ichabods’ offense. However, the tide turned dramatically after halftime.

In the 52nd minute, Washburn broke the deadlock when Chloe Kolm assisted Leah Henke, who scored the opening goal for the Ichabods. This initial strike seemed to ignite the team, as they quickly followed up with another goal just three minutes later. A corner kick taken by Mackinly Rohn inadvertently resulted in an own goal by Drury, extending Washburn's lead to 2-0.

Just 19 seconds after the second goal, the Ichabods struck again. Henke, who had already made her mark on the game, connected with Brynn Allison, allowing Allison to score her first goal of the night and sealing the game at 3-0. This rapid succession of goals highlighted Washburn's offensive dominance in the second half, as they outshot Drury 7-1 in shots on goal throughout the match.

The victory is significant for Washburn as they prepare for their upcoming matches in Arkansas. The Ichabods will face Ouachita Baptist on September 11 and then take on Harding on September 13. These upcoming games will be crucial as Washburn looks to build momentum in the season and improve their standing in the national rankings.

With this win, the Ichabods not only showcased their ability to bounce back after a challenging first half but also reinforced their status as a formidable team in the NCAA Division II landscape. As the season progresses, maintaining this level of performance will be key for Washburn as they aim for success in both conference play and beyond.
