Odell Beckham Jr. has received the long-awaited news that he has made the New York Giants' 53-man roster for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The announcement came informally as he was leaving the practice field following a preseason game, a moment that marked a significant milestone in his career after a year-long hiatus from professional football.
Beckham, who turned 33 this year, had faced uncertainty regarding his position on the team leading up to the final week of training camp. Giants head coach John Harbaugh had previously indicated that Beckham had performed well enough to earn a spot in the league, but there was no guarantee it would be with the Giants. However, the situation solidified on Sunday when Beckham learned of his selection.
"I am excited. I found out when I was walking off the field. Coach said congratulations and he said that I worked hard. I told him I will give him everything I got. He said 'let’s go do it,'" Beckham shared, reflecting on his emotions upon receiving the news. His enthusiasm is palpable as he prepares to re-establish himself in the league.
During the preseason, Beckham participated in three games, where he caught seven passes out of 13 targets for a total of 76 yards. While he did not score any touchdowns, his performance was not the sole factor in securing his roster spot. Instead, it was his determination to prove his worth after missing the entire 2025 season that resonated with the coaching staff.
The Giants are currently facing a challenging situation with their receiving corps, as injuries have sidelined key players. Malik Nabers is out with an ACL injury, and Calvin Austin III will not be available for the remainder of the season. This leaves Beckham, along with Darnell Mooney, Darius Slayton, and rookie Malachi Fields, as the primary receiving options for the team.
Beckham's return to the Giants is particularly significant, as he was originally drafted by the franchise with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He quickly made a name for himself, earning three consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2014 to 2016, during which he recorded 390 receptions, 5,476 receiving yards, and 44 touchdowns. His journey has since taken him through various teams, including the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens, and Miami Dolphins, but his legacy with the Giants remains strong.
As he embarks on this new chapter, Beckham is poised to make an impact. He currently ranks fourth on the Giants' all-time list for receiving touchdowns and needs just five more to surpass Kyle Rote for second place, with Amani Toomer's franchise record of 54 touchdowns still in sight.
The Giants are set to kick off their regular season against the Dallas Cowboys on September 13. While it remains to be seen if Beckham will be active for that game, his inclusion on the roster is a significant step as he aims to contribute to the team's success this season.
