Thursday was the Champions League league phase draw. Juventus were not part of it. Now a day later, though, the European competition in which the Bianconeri will take part in this season, the Europa League, will conduct their own league phase draw.
The excitement … you can just feel it pulsing through everybody’s veins.
OK, so the Europa League draw is very much not the build-up that the Champions League draw has been over the years. This is the first time that Juventus will be in the Europa League since 2023, and it was only them getting bounced from the Champions League after the group stage that allowed them to then make it to the semifinal round.
This season, though, Juve will be in the Europa League from the very beginning, with the third year of the league phase and everything that comes with the 32-team field set to get underway next month.
Here’s how the four pots of eight teams apiece break down …
No matter how many jokes you will see about this being the secondary European competition — and some of those aren’t wrong! — there are still plenty of recognizable names on that list. You’ve got some very familiar names to those who even follow Ligue 1, the Bundesliga and La Liga a little bit. You’ve also got a handful of teams that have been on Juventus’ Champions League fixture lists over the last few years. You’ve also got some of the very flush-with-cash mid-table Premier League clubs in Pot 3. Then there is a certain Turkish club in Pot 4 in which a certain Serbian striker now plays for that Juventus could very well be drawn against.
That sure would provide us some narrative heading into that potential matchup, huh?

So let the draw begin — hopefully soon. And may Juventus get the kind of list of opponents in the league phase in which they can win eight games out of eight and finish atop the group. (Then again, who am I kidding? We all know that is not going to happen no matter who they’re matched up against.)
