The Green Bay Packers placed wide receiver Savion Williams and edge rusher Collin Oliver on injured reserve with a designation to return to start the 2026 season. Neither Williams nor OIiver will count against the 53-man roster, and both must miss at least the first four games of the regular season before becoming eligible to return.
Williams and Oliver were both injured during the Packers' preseason win over the Denver Broncos. Williams injured his ankle; Oliver has a calf injury. They will miss games against the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Both Williams and Oliver labored through injury-plagued rookie seasons, so this is a troubling start to Year 2 for each player.
Without Williams and Oliver, the Packers went heavy at receiver, keeping six on the initial 53-man roster, and thin at edge rusher, keeping only four. Williams is no higher than the No. 4 receiver, while Oliver is no higher than the No. 4 or No. 5 edge rusher.
The six receivers to make the first 53: Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Bo Melton, Skyy Moore and rookie J. Michael Sturdivant.
The four edge rushers to make the first 53: Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Brenton Cox Jr. and rookie Dani Dennis-Sutton.
One note: defensive lineman Warren Brinson, who also missed time to finish training camp because of a calf injury, was not placed on injured reserve. He is on the first 53.
Edge rusher Micah Parsons, tight end Luke Musgrave and defensive tackle Jordon Riley were placed on the PUP list to start the regular season and will also miss at least the first four games.
