Pakistan wrapped up its participation in the World Nomad Games with a commendable haul of four bronze medals, demonstrating the nation's prowess in traditional sports such as tug-of-war and mass wrestling. The Games, which celebrate the rich cultural heritage of nomadic peoples, featured athletes from various countries competing in a range of indigenous sports.
Tayyab Raza Awan was a standout performer for Pakistan, clinching bronze in the 1x1 tug-of-war competition. His journey to the podium included victories over competitors from Russia, Georgia, and Britain, culminating in a decisive win against an Iranian opponent in the bronze medal match. This achievement highlighted Awan's strength and skill in a highly competitive field.
In addition to Awan's success, Pakistan's tug-of-war team also secured bronze in the 8x8 event. They showcased their teamwork and strategy by defeating Iran in the third-place match. Earlier in the tournament, the team had impressive victories against India and faced formidable opponents from countries including Britain, Russia, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Brazil, and Georgia.
Mass wrestling also contributed to Pakistan's medal tally, with Mohammad Asim earning bronze in the 90-kilogram category after overcoming an Iranian wrestler in the bronze medal bout. Iqra Naseeb further bolstered the team's performance by winning another bronze in the 90 kg plus category, bringing Pakistan's total to four medals.
The athletes represented Pakistan across various disciplines at the Games, including equestrian events, mass wrestling, tug-of-war, and archery. The competition, which concluded with a formal closing ceremony on Sunday, saw participants from numerous nations, with Pakistan's teams particularly excelling in tug-of-war.
Officials from the Pakistan contingent expressed satisfaction with the athletes' performances, noting that the results were a positive conclusion to their campaign. "It was a fine run. The athletes did well and we are happy with the outcome," said a representative from the team, speaking from Bishkek.
The World Nomad Games, established in 2014, aim to promote the traditions of nomadic cultures, particularly those of Central Asia. This year's edition marked the sixth occurrence of the event, which features a variety of traditional sports, including wrestling, archery, horse racing, and tug-of-war.
