Patriots Practice Update: TreVeyon Henderson Continues Recovery Ahead of Seahawks Matchup

The New England Patriots returned to the practice fields on Thursday, engaging in a bonus day of preparation as they gear up for their Week 1 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. This practice session is crucial as the team aims to refine their strategies and build momentum ahead of the highly anticipated season opener.

Running back TreVeyon Henderson remains sidelined due to an ankle injury he sustained early last week. Although Henderson was present in the locker room and showed no signs of a limp, he is still focused on his rehabilitation process. His absence is felt as the Patriots look to solidify their offensive lineup for the upcoming game.

In addition to Henderson, tight end Cameron Latu, who was recently claimed by the team, also did not participate in practice. Offensive lineman Ben Brown was another notable absence, as he is dealing with an injury sustained during the preseason opener. Brown had been released on Monday but quickly re-signed with the team on Tuesday, indicating the Patriots' commitment to maintaining depth on their roster.

During practice, the Patriots donned shells as they concentrated on first and second down plays. Head coach Mike Vrabel emphasized the importance of these practice sessions, stating, “We only get 14 padded practices through 17 weeks. 11 of which have to be in the first 11 weeks.” This highlights the limited opportunities the team has to prepare physically for the rigors of the NFL season.

Vrabel also noted the need for the team to adapt to practicing in shells without shoulder pads, which he believes is essential for developing a competitive edge. “I think that they can go with speed and it’s not a jog through. There’s speed but there’s no collisions. But there has to be contact. It’s practice. We have to get these reps for first and second down,” he explained, indicating a focus on maintaining intensity during practice.

The Patriots have three more practice sessions lined up this week on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, before they depart for Seattle on Monday afternoon. The highly anticipated rematch against the Seahawks is set to take place on Wednesday at 8:20 p.m. ET, marking the kickoff of the 2026 NFL season. This game not only serves as a season opener but also as a rematch of the Super Bowl, adding an extra layer of excitement and significance for both teams.
