Pensacola State College (PSC) has officially inaugurated its new soccer complex, a significant addition to its athletic facilities, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on September 3. The PSC women’s soccer team marked this occasion by hosting Northeast Community College in their first home game at the state-of-the-art facility.
Located on a 6.7-acre site at the intersection of Underwood and Tippin avenues, the PSC Soccer Complex represents a substantial investment in the college's athletic program, costing over $5.7 million. The complex features a natural turf NCAA regulation-sized soccer field, bleacher seating for 280 spectators, as well as a concession stand and restrooms, providing a comprehensive venue for both players and fans.
In addition to the opening of the soccer field, plans for a second phase of development are already underway, which will include the construction of dressing rooms and a press box at an estimated cost of $2.1 million. This phase is set to begin in the fall, further enhancing the complex's functionality.
PSC President Ed Meadows expressed his enthusiasm for the new facility, emphasizing its importance not only for the college but also for the broader Pensacola community. "This is not only a facility for the college, but, in the future, a facility for the community," Meadows stated. He noted that while the new grass field will require time to mature, it is designed for durability, allowing for a sustainable playing surface.
The PSC women’s soccer team, now in its fourth season, has already made a name for itself by becoming a three-time Division II Region 8 champion, winning titles in 2023, 2024, and 2025, as well as a South Atlantic District champion. The new complex will also host the upcoming South Atlantic District Championships on October 31, which will feature teams from Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina, further solidifying PSC's role in regional soccer.
Head coach Mark Yepishin highlighted the significance of the complex, stating that it symbolizes growth and opportunity for the student-athletes. He remarked, "When we started this program, we had a vision of building something that our players, our college, and our community could be proud of. Today is another step in that vision with a reality." He expressed gratitude to all those involved in the project, including the college administration and donors.
Freshman player Lillie Smith, a graduate of Baker High School, shared her excitement about the new field, noting, "I really love having our field right here on campus, and, as a freshman, being part of a new program like this is awesome. We’re really grateful for this field and complex." This sentiment reflects the enthusiasm within the team as they adapt to their new home.
The complex will also serve as the home field for the PSC Charter Academy girls soccer team, which is set to field its inaugural team this fall. Athletic director Lyndsey Angus mentioned that several students have already shown interest in joining the team, with games scheduled against local high schools.
Meadows indicated that the new facility will not only enhance the college's athletic profile but also strengthen its ties to the community, which boasts a vibrant youth soccer scene. PSC Athletic Director Bryan Lewallyn noted that while some games will still be played at Ashton Brosnaham Park this season, all home games will transition to the new complex starting next fall.
The Morette Company has been appointed as the general contractor for the project, with Sam Marshall Architects responsible for the design of the complex. This new soccer facility is expected to play a pivotal role in the development of both current and future student-athletes at Pensacola State College.
