Pine Tree Pirates win season opener against the Gilmer Buckeyes

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK)-- The Pine Tree Pirates opened a new season on Thursday night with a win at home over the Gilmer Buckeyes.

FINAL SCORE: Pine Tree 42- Gilmer 50

The Buckeyes entered the 2026 season looking to regroup after last year, when they finished the season with a losing record for the first time since 2018.

The Buckeyes will travel to Chapel Hill next week to face the Bulldogs, who are also 1-0 after defeating Whitehouse in their season opener.

Meanwhile, the Pirates start the season 1-0 and will look to pick up their second win of the year when they face the Carthage Bulldogs on the road next Friday.
