Led by Ethan Dowdy’s runner-up finish, the Shady Spring boys won the Chick-fil-A Huntington/Wayne Cross Country Invite Saturday in Lesage.
Dowdy, a senior, finished the course in a time of 16:17.01. It was the ninth second-place showing and 12th top five of his career.
The Tigers scored 82 team points to edge runner-up Parkersburg South (84). Hurricane was third with 92, Winfield fourth (126) and Charleston Catholic fifth (130).
Rounding out the top five for Shady were Caleb Rose (ninth, 17:11.49), Brady Justice (25th, 17:46.77), Logan Malott (26th, 17:50.38) and Bryce Rose (38th, 18:38.31).
Shady’s girls finished third with a score of 104 points. Hurricane dominated with 24 points and Parkersburg South was second with 76.
In fourth was Fairland (Ohio) at 140 and Huntington fifth at 158.
The Tigers had five runners in the top 30: Baylee Garrett (13th, 21:11.17), Bre Crouse (15th, 21:43.77), Raelyn Carr (26th, 22:16.06), Sophia Ellis (27th, 22:20.22) and Berkley Davis (29th, 22:26.88).

Another pair of seniors continued their successful careers at the Coach Willie B Invitational at Pipestem Resort.
Woodrow Wilson’s Kyle Peters won the boys race with a 16:12.53 in leading the Flying Eagles won the team title with 42 points.
It was Peters’ 10th consecutive top 10 finish and sixth career victory.
Greenbrier East was second with 90 points, Riverside third, James Monroe fourth and Westside fifth.
Vance Lindley finished fifth for the Flying Eagles in a time of 17:37.52. Alex Mullins was 12th (18:44.66), Chayse Dominick 13th (18:48.37) and Drew Breeden 20th (19:18.34).
Independence sophomore Jeffery Watson was third with a time of 17:07.47, setting a team record.
Runner-up was reigning Class AA Region 3 champion Brody Lester of Westside (16:54.66).
On the girls side, Greenbrier East’s Neena McClintic won with a time of 19:24.26 as the Spartans took the team title with 30 points. Woodrow followed with 45 and Oak Hill 52.
Greenbrier East’s Jillian Styles was fourth (22:22.91), Adelyn Wallington seventh (22:59.75), Caroline Perilli Hancock 10th (23:24.90) and Kate Adkins 14th (23:48.07).
Lakin Houck (21:43.54) and Reagan Moore (22:16.28) were second and third for Woodrow. They were followed by Taylor Hilton (12th, 23:24.53), Violet Hartsock (17th, 25:01.65) and McKinley Kennedy (19th, 25:46.42).
The top five for Oak Hill were Kynlee Wriston (fifth, 22:28.51), Clara Swank (eighth, 23:06.27), Leila Smith (11th, 23:26.04), Adriana Ibarra (16th, 25:00.71) and Lily Davis (23rd, 27:19.16).
